Basic Procedures For a Successful Installation of an HSAJet Inkjet System

The following mechanical and electrical requirements are recommended for reliable online coding:

• Conveyor Belt - The conveyor belt should be a friction-type, seamless belt to prevent corrugated cases from slipping on the belt. If a seamless belt is unavailable use a belt with an endless splice or hidden lace.
• Conveyor Frame - The frame should have a flat steel table top under the belt.
• Drive Motor - The drive motor should be direct or timing belt driven.
• Guide Rail System - The guide rails must guide the case smoothly to within 1/10" of the print head and must be able to keep the carton square to the print head. It is recommended that the guide rails completely protect the print heads and ink systems from damage that could result from irregular cartons or open flaps.
• Eliminate Vibration - The print head should be installed on a freestanding bracket, or other type of freestanding assembly. All vibration from other equipment or case transfer must be kept away from the print station by either bracing or modifying the conveyor system.
• Conveyor Belt Tracking - There can be no side-to-side motion. Inconsistent belt tracking may cause poor print quality and/or wavy bar codes.
• Encoder - The use of a non-slipping encoder wheel is recommended in order to produce accurate and readable bar codes.
• Substrate – Make sure the substrate is as close as possible to the print head to maintain good print quality.
• Approved Wipes - Wipe the print head only with Superior approved clean room large wipes (Part number: 197476B). Using "normal" paper towels, or shop clothes can push debris into the orifices.
• Mechanical - Glue machines and case erectors may create glue strands (angel hair) that can accumulate on the print head. The glue blocks the orifices, which causes poor print quality. It is important to adjust all glue equipment (correct setup, correct temperature, correct nozzle, and correct adhesive) to eliminate excess glue. A brush or roller assembly can be installed upstream to help prevent glue strands from reaching the print heads.
• Electrical - It is recommended that all DarJet Inkjet Systems receive electrical power from a dedicated plant power source. The electrical supply for the inkjet system should be used solely for the inkjet system to decrease the risk of failure due to power line interference.
• Preventive Maintenance - Preventive maintenance procedures that are outlined in the system manual should be followed and documented on a daily, weekly and annual basis.
